French Indie Rock singer Dumas is one of the most highly regarded and commercially successful Quebecois French singers of today.
Influenced by both British Rock and French Pop music, [Steve] Dumas has won accolades for his unique French music videos, his creative solo performances (he uses guitar pedals to do “live looping a la Imogen Heap, Andrew Bird, Bon Iver, KT Tunstall, etc.), his catchy New Wave, Electro-pop, and Pop Rock, and his relatable lyrics.
After several successful albums, including the excellent Fixer le Temps and Le Cours des Jours, Dumas took a break from touring and locked himself in a studio to record. He went all Prince and churned out 4 limited edition albums in less than a year starting in December 2008, and from those, he picked the best 11 songs to be reworked (mastered, mixed, edited, enhanced, or re-recorded) for his latest “official” album, Traces. BTW, the albums in the tetralogy (or is it quadruplet?) were Nord, Rouge, Demain and Au Bout du Monde.
I was planning to post Dumas’ latest video, but the video for “J’erre” from Le Cours des Jours made me LOL so hard that it won the spot. His dance moves cracked me up. What, your gas station attendant doesn’t come outside and dance in front of your car like this?
Here’s another of Dumas’ big hits, “Au gré de Saisons,” from the album, Fixer le Temps.
