Moziimo represents a fresh sound in French music. As the audience in France embraces an ever wider range of music genres performed in their native tongue, you can expect to hear more great Indie Pop from new and innovative artists.
Born on the island of Corsica, and raised in the Montmartre area of Paris, Melody Orru takes the stage name Moziimo from her initials combined with the name of the Chinese philosopher, Mozi. The singer made a splash when her hit upbeat hit “Je voudrais etre un fleuve” got radio airplay in 2011.
Though her lead-off single was Pop-py and mainstream, don’t be fooled. Her style is a bit trippy — think Bat for Lashes rather than Colbie Caillat. You’ll find bare, experimental music, lo-fi, electronica and Electro Pop on her self-produced debut EP, which you can buy below.
If you like the vibe of Oh Land, Lykke Li, Elie Goulding, and similar artists, then definitely check out Moziimo and her debut EP, which also includes a duet with Arthur H (“Viens dans mon château”). Here she is performing “Je voudrais etre un fleuve” (I would be a river):
And here’s “Le Secret,” which you can also find on her EP. Leave a comment and let me know what you think.
