Check out French R&B from Quinze. Get to know this unique French R&B singer and read about his new album.
It’s been four long years since Quinze released his debut album, Girlfriend, and scored a crossover hit with its rock-tinged title track in 2006. Girlfriend was a great French R&B / Soul album — a classic, in my opinion — and is worth getting your hands on if you’re a fan of R&B.
In May, Quinze independently released Oublions, a veritable R&B buffet with a couple heapings of Nu soul, a slice of futuristic Ryan Leslie-esque stuff, a few trendy flourishes for garnish, and a main course of lush R&B melodies and harmonies that hearken back to the 90′s R&B groups I really used to like.
There’s no particular ‘sound’ or concept on Oublions — Quinze simply assembled his favorite songs into an album.
I really like “Jamais,” “Mon Soleil,” “Seul,” “Les Enfants” (a beautiful acoustic piano ballad), and “Mon Nom Sur Tes Levres” (“My Name on Your Lips”) — a Quinze song that has actually been floating around since 2005 or so and is just now making it onto an official album. Check out the video:
