I spent most of this past Fete de la Musique in Paris at a Hip Hop block party. When the DJ put on this French Hip Hop song in the middle of his Old School set, the crowd erupted in cheers and started singing along. It was foreign to me, yet very familiar.

I’m always on the lookout for great French covers, and Jeanne Cherhal’s “Mon Corps Est Une Cage” definitely fits the bill. She’s one of my favorite French female singers.

The French band Mustang keeps it old school, recalling the pioneers of Southern Rock and Rockabilly, Punk, and New Wave (sometimes all at once) with its retro Rock.
